For the unversed, there are 5 recognized varieties of Navratri falling in a 12 months, out of which Sharad Navratri or Shardiya Navratri is essentially the most important one.
Shardiya Navratri begins on the pratipada or the primary day of the lunar month of Ashwin. The dates of Navratri differ every year relying upon the Hindu Lunar calendar.
